Absence from School
At Mount Charles we are keen to ensure that all our pupils receive a full-time education which maximises opportunities for each child to realise his/her own potential. Regular attendance and punctuality at school is vital. Without it, the learning process becomes fragmented and unsatisfactory. Much of the teaching in the school is carried out in three week blocks – missing days at the beginning, middle or end of these blocks severely affects the pupils’ learning for the whole unit of work. Put simply, absence means missing learning.

With effect from September 2013, the Department of Education has made amendments to the 2006 regulations. These make it clear that Headteachers may not grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. In the light of these changes parents and carers need to be aware that it will no longer be possible to authorise leave of absence unless the exceptional circumstances have been explained. In line with the policies of our neighbouring schools, reasons such as "it is cheaper in term time" or "it is more convenient" are no longer acceptable.

We greatly value our relationship with parents and really appreciate your support in this matter.
