What a fantastic half term – two weeks and some great weather. We hope you all had a good break and are ready for the next half term. There are lots of things going on.
We will start the term off with a one week focus on World War One. We will then start our topic Stargazers. A homework sheet, like the one sent for Beast Creator will be sent out this week. Please see the topic web for details.
Swimming and PE
Swimming starts on Friday. Please remember:
- No earrings
- Hair should be tied back
- No baggy shorts
- We will return to school just after 3pm – do not worry if we are late, sometimes the traffic can be bad at that time of day. We will walk the children back into the playground for you to collect. Speed Swimmers will stay at the pool and will need to be collected at 3:40pm.
Our PE day is Thursday. Please make sure PE kits are in school and are named.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up – we hope to have a great time. Details sent out with information on payment dates throughout the year. If you have any issues please come and see us or send a message through Class Dojo and we can get in touch with you.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday or Wednesday evening. If you haven’t made an appointment, please get in touch. If you cannot make those days we can arrange another date – it would be lovely to see you to discuss your child’s work.
The children have been making some good progress in their reading. Please keep up the reading at home – remember at least 3 times a week and sign their book – dojos are rewarded to children reading at least three times a week.
Time Table Rock Stars
Just a reminder that the children can play on Times Table Rock Stars at home. Little and often is best – it only takes one minute to have a go! We would love to see Year 5 at the top of the leader board for the number of questions answered.
Thank you for your support in using this, it has been a great way of communicating. We will continue to put information on there and on the Class Page of the website.
As always, if you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Many thanks, Rachel Nile and Aimee Kelly.
Welcome to Year 5.
We hope you've a great summer. We have had a lovely first day back and it is great to see the children looking smart in their uniforms. We hope to have a great year, full of lots of exciting learning.
Your child should come home on Wednesday with an invite to join Class Dojo – we hope that this will be a great way to keep in touch and celebrate your child’s achievements, please sign up.
Our topic this term is Beast Creator. We will be looking at lots of different minibeasts, finding out where they come from, what their special super powers are, making observational drawings, making bug hotels and much more. To help get our topic off to a flying start, we have a Wildlife Group coming in on Monday 10th September – the cost of this is £2.45 and is now open on Parent Pay.
We will give the children new assessments in Accelerated Reader so expect them to come home soon with their new ZPD – don’t worry if this is different to where they finished last term. Please note that we ask the children to put their scores from quizzes into their reading records so look out for those – remember we are aiming for 85% or higher on each quiz. We do read daily in class, but please remember that any reading done at home really does help the children with their learning and we expect them to read at least three times a week at home.
Our PE days for this half term are Wednesday and Thursday, but please make sure that kits are in every day – we will be encouraging the children to make the most of the clubs on offer to them.
We will swim next half term. Speed swimming begins on Friday 7th September.
In Year 5 the children do not need pencil cases or other equipment – the school supplies it all. Please make sure they do have a water bottle and a healthy snack each day.
Date for your diary
June 5th – 7th is our residential trip to Porthpean Camp. The total cost of the trip will be approximately £140.
This has been a huge success in previous years. The children will be away for two nights. Activities could include canoeing, kayaking, high ropes, coasteering, cycling and archery. More details will be sent shortly.
Always remember that if you have any questions or queries you can pop in, give us a call or leave a message on Class Dojo (messages you send can only be seen by the teacher, but can’t always be read before 3pm on the day you send them as we are busy with the children.)
Rachel Nile and Aimee Kelly.
