In Early Years and Key Stage One, children learn to read and write through the Read Write Inc. Phonics and RWI Literacy and Language programme. Further details of the Read Write Inc. programme for parents can be found at http://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/parents/ where tutorial videos are available for parents to support their children’s reading at home.
Once proficient in these skills, pupils in Year 2, and throughout Key Stage 2, continue to develop their skills of reading and writing using the RWI Literacy and Language programme.
In Year 3 and 4, pupils who need additional phonics support continue with Read Write Inc sessions and in Year 5 and 6, pupils work on the Fresh Start programme of work. The aim of these programmes is to support the children and develop their skills in order that they can work at the necessary level as soon as possible.
